Sandy is a three year old approx male lurcher looking for a special home. Sandy was living as a stray for at least 5 months, fending for himself and it took a long time to catch him. While straying he was hit by a car and lived for a number of months with a leg injury. Sandy is a shy dog who can be startled by loud noises and is particularly scared of men. He requires an experienced sighthound home with someone who can give him the support he needs to settle into a new environment. He would be best suited to be being walked in quieter locations without too many people. Sandy will only be rehomed to a fully secure garden. Any new owner will be required to meet Sandy a number of times in his foster home before bringing him home. Sandy gets on well with other dogs and must go to a home with at least one other dog. He walks well on the lead, is housetrained and loves to cuddle! Home visit applies. Sandy is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered. Contact sighthoundstrolls@gmail.com or 086 1628369
Here’s what Sandy’s fosterer says about him:
'Sandy is the gentlest, most well-mannered boy you could ever meet. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes, even my bossy female hound. He loves to go for walks and really loves home life. He has come on really well with the support of his two greyhound foster sisters and daily walks in the woods or at the beach.
He fractured both bones in his left foreleg. However, he has seen an orthopaedic vet who confirmed it is almost completely healed. He plays the race/chase around the field game with my two hounds running at top speed with no bother and loves his daily walks. So much so he gives out with a kind of bow-wow whistle sound if I’m late taking him. He walks like a dream even wearing a harness. He wears the harness because he is still jumpy with loud noises.
Sandy is very laid back in the house, is fully house-trained and can be left for up to 4 hours. He loves home life. He cuddles with both my hounds and loves to snuggle up closely with me, almost as if he’s making up for all those months on his own. He is becoming quite playful. He especially loves stuffed toys that make grunting noises.
Although he fended for himself for 5 months he has shown absolutely no interest in trying to get away. He appears to have a kind of cool, detached manner but is actually a real mama’s boy. He races up to me when I collect him from the day kennel on Tuesdays and stays by my side gently nudging me that he’s ready to go home. After walks he jumps immediately into the van ready to return home.
He would be perfect in a quiet home with another dog and an owner, preferable a woman with sighthound experience. He is still very fearful of men and jumpy with loud noises. Despite his fear of men, he has a very impressive growly bark if he sees anything unusual in the garden so he would make a super house alarm!'
